EBOLA ESSAY (GEC1033)

Ebola
Ebola is a virus that found in Africa. Multiple outbreaks has been reported one in the United States and multiple across Africa. This virus diseases basically causes bleeding internally and externally. Based on the medical news, it stated that people currently take 2-21 days to takes effect after being infected. This is because this dangerous virus takes several times to spread to all part of the bodies and give the external effect. All the external effect shown that how long the virus had infected the body. The effect becomes much worse when the times goes by.  This virus is an acute and often fatal illness.
Based on all three articles about Ebola that I have read, this kind of virus was obviously jeopardous. It is easy to spread through direct and close contact but difficult to cure. At the beginning people in Africa basically buy some bushmeat (raw meat) and enjoy the food as usual but for some particular time they did not cook the food properly and sustain the virus to stay alive. Thus the virus gets into the human body and destroys the inner part of the body. Once the virus enters the body, you may have lots of problems about one’s health and may die in a short time. Generally, there are lot of symptoms that give us some clue to identify the conditions when we are having this kind of illness. Somehow the health-care workers cannot identify the disease through the symptoms only, a blood test must be taken as well. Thus, a diagnosis must be completely done first. The diagnosis of this virus is totally hard to be done said medical news. The diagnosis that require the blood test needs a specialized laboratory as well. For this reason, only the government can do that with maximum containment conditions because the lab is an extreme biohazard. Consequently, quarantining of infected people from others plays a major role to prevent this people have a close contact with others and constantly ensure the virus from being transmitted. The Standard Operational Procedure must be followed to prevent the virus from spread widely.
Besides that, World Health Organization (WHO) reported that a new vaccine called rVSV-ZEBOV had been tested involving 11841 people during 2015. A positive result obtained and clearly shows that people survive from the first day onwards after taking the vaccine. This show that some technology and research had slow down the virus effect and start to cure the virus.  In addition, the prevention method to reduce the risk of transmission also being stated by WHO. All the transmissions between human and also between living things such as animal must be controlled. Naturally, greatest chance of transmitting the virus is between human which allow the virus to spread easily especially with health-care workers. This peoples easily infected because they have direct and close contact with people with Ebola symptom. Owing to this, those workers should taking care of patients with gloves and other appropriate protective clothing. There is no specific treatment or care for the Ebola virus.
Sadly, there is not a scientific or natural cure found yet, there are some methods that can increase a person’s chance of survival if contracted with the virus. The vaccine to cure this illness has been developed now.  However, the healthy people should take this issue as a serious one or it could been worse and spread to all of us. For an example, raw meats that freshly bought from the wet market should be thoroughly cooked before consumption to prevent the virus to stay alive and infect other peoples. Thus, peoples must take all the precaution steps and follow the health-care workers orders because prevention is better than cure. Thus, people must be more aware about this issue because prevention of the Ebola virus is more useful than the treatments because the average Ebola survival rate is about 50 percent, according to the World Health Organization. Therefore, people who having this disease have to start to count their remaining days to live.
