Mobile phone have changed the world, for better or worse?
Introduction
1876 - Alexander Graham Bell invented telephone
General information about mobile phone
· The common things people do using phone
o we only access to make and receive the calls and send and receive the messages (basic phone)
· Function of a mobile phone has developed into entertainment
o Lot of social media can be access and also surf for live streaming video at anywhere and anytime.
· Every age level of people currently use this phone more frequently (especially teenagers)
Body
Positive point
Idea #1 – Connected to World
· keeping in touch with family members
· can contact someone who lives on the other side of the world within seconds
o far-off things come near
o strengthen the relationship
· Can experience media social network (etc. facebook, whatsapp and Instagram)
o Can have current news across the globe easily
o Live update through all around the world including sports, technology and others.
Idea #2 –Life become Easier
· More than 100 of utilities
o Camera, calculator, music, converter and others
o No need to bring along camera, mp3 players or calculator
o All the things already there in a device
o Can have a lift just with a single click (etc. Grab/ Uber)
Negative Point
Idea #3 – Relationship breakdown
· Frequent use of mobile keeps your friend, parents and also relatives away from you.
o More frequent to play phone instead of talking to each other
o Prefer to message than talk face-to-face with someone
o Not going to put effort into real-life communication
o Basic skill of communication could be worse
o Because they not implement the skill in their life. They would prefer to texting a message instead of have a conversation.
o Ignore parents call, busy on works in the phone (etc. playing games)
o Too obsess to play online games. Psychologist, Dr Brent (2018)
§ Basically games was a something good, it is just a way to relax, to learn or to connect with family.
§ But when it was being used for a long time, you will be addicted.
§ Like other addictions (etc. drugs)
§ It can influence you to do anything to fulfil the addiction like staying up a night without have to sleep to playing game
Idea #4 – Reason for exam failure
· Lose concentration while studying
o Cannot focus in teachers lecture
· Radiation from smartphone could trigger memory loss in students, Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (2017)
o Right handed user most likely suffer
o Using the right ear can directly affect the brain
o Thus, calls makes the brain more prone to mobile radiation
o Prevention- Use loudspeaker or using headphone to minimise the radiation
· Too much eye contact with the phone screen could lead to eye problem
o Thus, you may can damage tissue in the retina of the eye
Idea #5- Loss of Human Life (Cons)
· Mostly peoples use the phone while driving, Resource : The Star Online (2017)
o Loss concentration on the road (mobile devices while driving slows down a driver’s reaction time)
o Statistic shown that number of cases increase by the years
o More dangerous than driving under the influence of alcohol
Conclusion
- All the gadgets have their own benefits either favourable condition or negative one.
- Try to overcome all those unfavourable conditions that already stated
- Use your mobile phone in a correct manner
- For example : Using phone while driving (Waze)
Prevention method : Buy phone holder and no need to hold the phone while driving
§ Thus, it can overcome one of those disadvantages
§ Call-to-action: “Is it the mobile phone changed the world for a better life now?”
